Winter doesn't stop delivery — in fact there are often more orders because people don't want to go out. With good gear you will get through the cold months comfortably.
Layer up, don't overheat
The secret to staying warm is layering: a technical base layer that wicks sweat, a mid layer (hoodie/fleece) and a waterproof, windproof outer jacket. You warm up while riding, so don't dress so heavily that you sweat on the first trip — wet clothing then makes you cold.
Hands and head
Fingers on the handlebars freeze fastest. Winter gloves with good grip are a must; in extreme cold, handlebar mitts help. Under your helmet, a thin hat or a neck warmer over your ears.
Slippery roads
- Brake earlier and more gently — braking distance gets longer on wet and icy surfaces.
- Take corners more slowly and without sharp steering movements.
- Watch out for drain covers, cobbles and frozen bridges — they are usually the slipperiest.
Caring for your bike or scooter
Salt and moisture damage the chain and brakes. After wet shifts dry your bike and lubricate the chain now and then. Check the brake pads — they wear faster in winter. With an e-scooter keep the battery warm; cold reduces range.
Hot food stays hot
A well-sealed thermal bag helps twice as much in winter — the customer gets warm food and you get a better rating. Don't leave the bag open longer than necessary.
